Research Interest Summary
Research Interests
Cytosolic arginine sensor for mTORC1 subunit 1 (CASTOR1) is a newly discovered arginine sensor, which negatively regulates mTORC1 activity. We have previously shown that CASTOR1 is tumor suppressive in KSHV-induced cellular transformation and breast cancer by regulating the mTORC1 activity and cell proliferation. However, the role of CASTOR1 in obesity, aging, inflammation, and other types of cancer remain unclear. We generated full body and conditional CASTOR1 knockout mice and using different models to investigate the function of CASTOR1 in obesity, senescence, inflammation, and cancer. We will provide abundance views of the mTOR pathway and its role in health and disease as well as aging. We further discuss pharmacological approaches to treat human pathologies linked to CASTOR1-mTOR deregulation.
